About Us...
D. Christopher (Chris) Warren is currently employed by the North St. Francois County School District, as well as an Adjunct History Professor at Mineral Area College in Park Hills, MO, (teaching American History courses year round). His work experience ranges from assistant director in public libraries, to working in historic sites & museums throughout SE Missouri. In the past, he has served as the Department Commander (over the states of Missouri and Arkansas) for the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (having been the youngest person to ever hold this position to that point). In addition, he is the founder and past Camp Commander of the former General James R. McCormick Camp 215 - Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (Bonne Terre, MO - merged into the Fletcher Camp #47); Camp Junior-Vice Commander & Camp Chaplain of the Gen. Thomas C. Fletcher Camp 47 of DeSoto, MO; Retired First Lieutenant/Unit Commander of the 47th Missouri Infantry, Company E - Sons of Veterans Reserve; Corporal / Unit Adjutant of the 1st Missouri Engineers, Company A – Sons of Veterans Reserve; and serves as Council for the Louisa Volker Auxiliary 215 – A.S.U.V.C.W.
He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Civil War Military History as well as a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education & Social Studies. In addition, for his efforts in all of his work for the SUVCW & SVR, he has received the following awards: Francis P. Blair, Jr. Award (Most Outstanding Member of Missouri); The Department of Missouri – SUVCW’s Meritorious Service Award (Outstanding Contributions/Efforts Over at Least a 5 Year Period); The National SUVCW’s Meritorious Service Award (Outstanding Contributions / Efforts); The SVR’S Meritorious Service Award With Silver Star (Outstanding Contributions, Efforts, & Recruiting); and he has risen from the rank of private – corporal – sergeant – first sergeant – second lieutenant, first lieutenant (and has recently retired with the latter rank, after having served for more than 12 years within the SVR).
Some of his Civil War ancestors include: William S. Reed (25th Missouri Infantry/1st Missouri Engineers), Samuel B. Reed (25th Missouri Infantry/1st Missouri Engineers), and Owen Perry (78th Enrolled Missouri Militia). Chris was raised in the Ironton, Missouri area and currently resides in Bonne Terre.
Twyla Warren is originally from Ontario, Canada, but currently resides with her husband, Chris, in Desloge, Missouri. She is the founder of the Louisa Volker Auxiliary 215 - Auxiliary to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, has served more than four terms as its President, has served as the group's Secretary/Treasurer, and was responsible for researching the life of Louisa Volker (the unit's namesake). She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Bible, Theology, & Christian Education. Most of her career has been spent as a pre-school teacher, child care worker, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Youth Leader. In addition, she has at least one Civil War ancestor as well; Benjamin Davis (16th Pennsylvania Cavalry).
She received the Dr. Mary Edwards Walker Award from the Department of Missouri, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War on May 3, 2018 for her years of outstanding service and assistance in the Civil War community.
In December 2014, the Warrens had their first child, Abigail (Abbie), whom accompanies them with their presentations and has been active in Civil War history since the age of two months (having participated in her first Civil War event at the end of February 2014 and did not cry at the sounds of the cannons and muskets booming.)
The Warrens are members of the Friends of Fort Davidson; Turner Brigade – Missouri Civil War Reenactors (1st Missouri Engineers, Company E, U.S.); the Missouri Civil War Reenactors Association; Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (and its Auxiliary); and the Sons of Veterans Reserve. They stay very active in Civil War programs for schools, civic groups, historical societies, state parks/historic sites, scouting groups, 4-H clubs, antique stores, museums, Pioneer Day in Farmington, MO for 15 years, and more.
